My Swimming Journey
Welcome to my swim page! I am Anshuman Jhingran, an open-water swimmer from Navi Mumbai, India. I have dedicated my life to conquering some of the world’s most challenging and iconic open-water channels. My journey is not just about swimming across vast oceans but about pushing my physical and mental boundaries, one stroke at a time.
Record-Breaking Achievements
I hold the Guinness World Record for being the youngest person to swim the 35 km North Channel from Northern Ireland to Scotland. At just 18 years and 125 days, I completed the grueling swim in 11 hours and 28 minutes in 2023. The North Channel is known for its extreme cold waters, jellyfish, and unpredictable tides, making it one of the toughest in the world. Although this record was recently broken, my passion for open-water swimming continues to grow stronger with each challenge.
In addition to the North Channel, I have successfully completed the Catalina Channel in California, crossing 32.3 km in just 8 hours and 38 minutes. I’ve also swum across the Cook Strait in New Zealand, completing the 22.5 km challenge in 6 hours and 58 minutes. Most recently, I achieved the 45 km Molokai Channel in Hawaii, finishing the demanding course in 14 hours and 21 minutes under the escort of Michael Twigg-Smith, making me one of the 117 people in the world to do so.
Training & Preparation
Open-water swimming is more than just a physical endeavor; it’s a mental battle. I train at Father Angel Sports Centre in Vashi under the invaluable guidance of Coach Gokul Kamath. His expertise and mentorship have been the backbone of my success, guiding me through the rigorous preparation required to tackle the world’s toughest channels. From adapting to cold water and currents to mastering endurance, every aspect of my training is designed to prepare me for the immense challenges of open-water swimming.
Why I Swim
For me, swimming is a journey of self-discovery. Each channel I conquer represents overcoming the impossible, pushing myself beyond limits, and proving that persistence and dedication can help us achieve anything. My swims are also a reflection of my love for the ocean and a deep respect for the power of nature. I hope that through my journey, I can inspire others to pursue their dreams, regardless of how impossible they may seem.
The Road Ahead
I am far from done. With each new challenge, I set my sights on pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in open-water swimming. I am on track to set another Guinness World Record. At 19, I am working hard to join this elite group of swimmers and continue to represent India on the global stage.
Thank you for being part of my journey. Whether you're an aspiring swimmer or simply a fan of endurance sports, I hope my story motivates you to take on your own challenges with passion and perseverance.
